Okay, so tomorrow is actually Thanksgiving but I've got Christmas on the brain! Since we're very low on funds this year, I'll be making homemade gifts for everyone on our list and I've currently got about a million craft projects planned but very few started! My mom hosts a yearly Christmas party that is always a huge deal and it's where I give several friends their yearly gifts. The only problem with this tradition is that the party is the 2nd week in December so I've only got two and a half weeks to finish 2 embroidery projects as well as several other gifts and to figure out something amazing to get my friends who just got married since they've got enough embroidery from me this year! I also want to make some homemade decorations this year like some festive bunting... soo much to do!! I'll have some follow-up posts of things as their finished! Anyone feeling the Holiday crush yet?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18440862504313195907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4269103728391591394.post-15544618376710408892012-11-08T08:14:00.001-08:002012-11-08T08:14:55.739-08:00C.R.A.F.T. I joined Jamie's Package Pals for October over at <a href="http://www.creatingreallyawesomefreethings.com/">C.R.A.F.T.</a> and got to make some fun stuff for Debbie in Florida over at <a href="http://craftyrider.wordpress.com/">Crafty Rider</a> and got a great package in the mail from her too!</div>

Here's the contents of my package for Debbie. I made her a horseshoe embroidery piece since she's a horse rider and works for a horse rescue. You can read Rescuerider's Weblog <a href="http://rescueriders.wordpress.com/">here</a>. I also included a mini Christmas wreath and a Halloween craft book since we both love the holidays. I made her a pair of hand warmers since she does suffer from arthritis, 30 seconds in the microwave and they're great for aches or just keeping warm (though it can't get that cold in Florida). I also included 2 origami crane strands which are what's in the Chinese New Year envelopes (Origami is Japanese but really I just don't want the cranes to get bent in shipping).</div>

Here's what came in my package from Debbi. I got a total of 7 soaps to try with 6 coordinating washcloths. Debbi said she tried to match the washcloth to the scent, for example there's cinnamon nutmeg for Halloween and cocao mint for Christmas, yum! I also got a great book on wirewrapping, something I've been wanting to try, some peacock feathers that I think I might try making into hair clips of some sort and a really cool little rose ornament that is currently hanging in my craft room window. Thanks Debbi!</div>

Another quick pin I decided to tackle was <a href="http://www.laaloosh.com/2010/10/07/pumpkin-cream-cheese-recipe/">this yummy sounding recipe for Pumpkin Cream Cheese.</a> <br />

It's fall and I love anything pumpkin!! The pin was originally from <a href="http://www.laaloosh.com/">LaaLoosh</a> which features healthy recipes for weight watchers users. I'm not on weight watchers yet but I'm always on the look out for healthier options. It was quick and easy to mix
up. It's great on bagels and my shortcakes that were leftover after we ran out
of strawberries. Also, it made a big batch so I get to enjoy this all week!<br />

When I saw a pin for these cute hand warmers, I decided to make my own version. These are for sale on Etsy on <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/WormeWoole?ref=top_trail">WormeWoole</a>'s shop <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/74209364/pocket-hand-warmers-fleece-vanilla-cream?ref=sr_gallery_4_search_submit=_search_query=fleece+rice+bags_order=most_relevant_ship_to=US_view_type=gallery_search_type=handmade_facet=handmade">here</a>. I love the cute heart shape but since I'm less of a pro, I decided to make some little squares instead.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I used an old cotton baby blanket from a thrift store. Baby linens are amazing because they're always plentiful in thrift stores and are even better used! I like some of the cutesy animal designs too but this blanket was a nice simple pattern with polka dots. I sewed two 2.5" squares together leaving a little hole to turn the fabric inside out. I had to use a piece of paper to make a funnel small enough to fill the packet with a mixture of rice and lavender. I then sewed the hole to close off the packet. I made three total. Two were sent to my package pal which I'll blog about later but I kept one for me. 30 seconds in the microwave and my hands are toasty warm and happy!<br />

I've started my own board of pins that I've managed to make reality to keep track of what I've managed to take beyond mere inspiration <a href="http://pinterest.com/laurabatson/pins-i-actually-made-happen/">here</a>. When I look at the difference between what I've pinned to motivate myself and what I've actually gotten done, it winds up being a good motivator to do more and pin less! Since two of my favorite blogs, <a href="http://www.younghouselove.com/">Young House Love</a> and <a href="http://www.bowerpowerblog.com/">Bower Power</a> are hosting a Pinterest Challenge I decided to blog about a few small projects I turned from inspiring pins to reality.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uuRtAt3Q2DQ/TsvvYX6y2hI/AAAAAAAANck/uyPsr_V9Exc/s400/DSC_2579.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uuRtAt3Q2DQ/TsvvYX6y2hI/AAAAAAAANck/uyPsr_V9Exc/s400/DSC_2579.jpg" height="396" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I saw a pin for these miniature Christmas wreaths made from old
shower curtain rings I got really excited since I had just found a set
we bought and then wound up not using when the curtain we bought came
with coordinating rings. The original tutorial came from <a href="http://www.smilelikeyoumeanit.net/">Smile Like You Mean It</a>. I decided to make a few to start preparing for Christmas.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAvizQh5S8mCRXVhhKl17vrdpHmZgSAhGOMVCPvGvmKn9-FPRAp21_SeWYmtbZprqZ5f7VdP6ioZNpCkUK4qP0jOdF5ACFZNk65CGgIAk-eL551VZXG1mDWbaQrkB_LwMTRQMghoS-joAV/s1600/IMG_5977.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihNJph6qSQWdZxpfyc6ZFBk8IK0Uj85sAuSBp6nMvLJjJ3JJut_OQHFe05Ykp-2jC0P8Es1mDHMZsFhgr7PQWB29BKnHyhH3yExyxgnoEdmHE2-ckMd8v_n_2gq7qr60_4GIfHhU9CTNi2/s1600/IMG_5892.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihNJph6qSQWdZxpfyc6ZFBk8IK0Uj85sAuSBp6nMvLJjJ3JJut_OQHFe05Ykp-2jC0P8Es1mDHMZsFhgr7PQWB29BKnHyhH3yExyxgnoEdmHE2-ckMd8v_n_2gq7qr60_4GIfHhU9CTNi2/s1600/IMG_5892.JPG" height="636" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I didn't worry about gluing the yarn at first. I tied the yarn under itself and kept wrapping until it stayed in place. I guesstimated the length of yarn I would need to cover the entire ring and was only a bit short. I was able to hide the yarn change by keeping the wrapping tight.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1yfa-cCPUZVw7ZGYQAbsD8vqMEF0MumaG7CX3KJonw2gGjUFnF1YMMxDtAehfXUqAFdDeu4cB-3rtxcjWA-8YHivOmeS7BDhxEZJOiKqgi-cRkjLW2lfZ4aRPh-QIe9g7SeQb5qmnR70n/s1600/IMG_5893.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1yfa-cCPUZVw7ZGYQAbsD8vqMEF0MumaG7CX3KJonw2gGjUFnF1YMMxDtAehfXUqAFdDeu4cB-3rtxcjWA-8YHivOmeS7BDhxEZJOiKqgi-cRkjLW2lfZ4aRPh-QIe9g7SeQb5qmnR70n/s1600/IMG_5893.JPG" height="640" width="634" /></a></div>
<br />
Once the wreath was fully covered I tied down the yarn end but didn't glue anything yet. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPDxNgRmttMshVVnweJFr0SWhwj8GlZ36sxh4FepP-T7NOGXYvLoLbt9ynLBkuvx5C2c7et7v_dqU8NV4VTACwxMhVJ5ajFvhS03oDpBg_Yc3k36t8TdMfbdZ-SQCzYGwh8NoqUzWaYNvN/s1600/IMG_5894.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPDxNgRmttMshVVnweJFr0SWhwj8GlZ36sxh4FepP-T7NOGXYvLoLbt9ynLBkuvx5C2c7et7v_dqU8NV4VTACwxMhVJ5ajFvhS03oDpBg_Yc3k36t8TdMfbdZ-SQCzYGwh8NoqUzWaYNvN/s1600/IMG_5894.JPG" height="550" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I chose to go with some gold ribbon and wrapped it around in the same direction as the yarn. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjku4WSjrDSHWzhvlWeQV75YcCQkB8rCNG-u43n09UztkWf-TKTpkJiu2Zrs5XHFHsrLHq2_AgySI9XMvtvt9CWLOtOb5YKmxjmwePOFEDhY89RXu2a8Gqq25UQr9H9oD1nEBGC2eonFFAA/s1600/IMG_5895.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjku4WSjrDSHWzhvlWeQV75YcCQkB8rCNG-u43n09UztkWf-TKTpkJiu2Zrs5XHFHsrLHq2_AgySI9XMvtvt9CWLOtOb5YKmxjmwePOFEDhY89RXu2a8Gqq25UQr9H9oD1nEBGC2eonFFAA/s1600/IMG_5895.JPG" height="612" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Once the wreath was fully covered things still looked a bit messy at the top. This is where extra yarn was used in layers to even out the connector for the ring and where I tied the ribbon. <br />

<br />
After transferring the image I made in the last post onto cloth with my trusty <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Hot-Iron-Transfer-Pencils-Pkg/dp/B000YQKMJO">Aunt Martha's Transfer Pencil</a>, I sewed up the image and here's what was left. It's not a perfect reproduction but it's an artistic portrait of the happy couple that's about to say "I do." I wanted to frame it and here's a quick tutorial on how I frame an embroidery piece in an embroidery hoop. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM0_lQfWXHQEtPUdLxqIxoziWcvjSaQubza6sAMCxw4kkHryxFn0Ejv1XNPS1jEetnpHnwOnGjZK9XAAZcYp883TMEOWLXMARica_uRkDaLWCl4mdADVcUTx4k85oRY15xIZp-EW8StUWY/s1600/IMG_5897.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM0_lQfWXHQEtPUdLxqIxoziWcvjSaQubza6sAMCxw4kkHryxFn0Ejv1XNPS1jEetnpHnwOnGjZK9XAAZcYp883TMEOWLXMARica_uRkDaLWCl4mdADVcUTx4k85oRY15xIZp-EW8StUWY/s1600/IMG_5897.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I always wash my pieces after I'm finished sewing to remove any stencil marks still showing. Even after my first time washing this piece there were some stains left behind that fortunately came right out with oxy-clean stain remover (which did not work on the handkerchief, boo!).<br />
<br />
First, find a hoop that you're not going to use for future projects, I picked up a wooden one that's a bit large for me to work with when sewing but is the perfect size for this portrait. I actually bought the hoop before I started sewing to make sure I sewed to the appropriate shape and marked it on the cloth. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjaFv72zcNuwZRuwxMh-9OX9uL0ycldarSYyjEov9RvmXhTDLiTOMoYSe9x6nLeypi3SNU4_eKFWtmJsVRB6nhqCHU4dZID6a5JSzrkNu0Mr_mZRwWb46gRo7LSGkId7ehsMTLyFE9G-xt/s1600/IMG_5899.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjaFv72zcNuwZRuwxMh-9OX9uL0ycldarSYyjEov9RvmXhTDLiTOMoYSe9x6nLeypi3SNU4_eKFWtmJsVRB6nhqCHU4dZID6a5JSzrkNu0Mr_mZRwWb46gRo7LSGkId7ehsMTLyFE9G-xt/s1600/IMG_5899.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Take the inside hoop (the solid ring) and use a paintbrush to apply a coat of glue to the outside edge of the ring. From here you want to move quickly so the glue doesn't dry before the cloth is in place.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3UJP_ODQo6SDpqpMRQhVfIvVinDTfIM8lLfeLMoBW1Ga_NMs5EsOllaac_hi-x3xquwrRx5TKGFz6Py6TuxPshT1Zm1QxhDaOS33NuBnWTTiPDcnf9XRhMWaZY9OgkpObvBlzsCf3pldA/s1600/IMG_5901.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3UJP_ODQo6SDpqpMRQhVfIvVinDTfIM8lLfeLMoBW1Ga_NMs5EsOllaac_hi-x3xquwrRx5TKGFz6Py6TuxPshT1Zm1QxhDaOS33NuBnWTTiPDcnf9XRhMWaZY9OgkpObvBlzsCf3pldA/s1600/IMG_5901.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Carefully lay the image on top of the ring and align it as closely as possible to where you want the image to sit in the hoop.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqVGqGX7D8JWpsddVCHHaBycDwHxxRtfhxHoJhxb0GoXF_-DkVti63EOQkfR3OjyNfDTC2LDpa-pvDzi1k_DcJtAD0PpWB4WXbyQd1gDPpH8g40txWEvFL3RYg4bjVC9gfucmJOjdSSNpJ/s1600/IMG_5902.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="562" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqVGqGX7D8JWpsddVCHHaBycDwHxxRtfhxHoJhxb0GoXF_-DkVti63EOQkfR3OjyNfDTC2LDpa-pvDzi1k_DcJtAD0PpWB4WXbyQd1gDPpH8g40txWEvFL3RYg4bjVC9gfucmJOjdSSNpJ/s1600/IMG_5902.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Unscrew the outer hoop as far as you can and place it around the inner hoop with the cloth in place. Pull the cloth to adjust the placement of the image if you need to.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHCB79V1tu03zg1-_JT08D4UdnQdNEtdOXOZ0MiCemR3uV4x6-RcJydplE3uw3gE6o_N2Ex7WZrJEfCWFPPmPAyInjTiAEbql90XWRLXnMLgDg7oeOJLB1_fsii2eutq6HZNZlfTcanM1o/s1600/IMG_5903.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="526" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHCB79V1tu03zg1-_JT08D4UdnQdNEtdOXOZ0MiCemR3uV4x6-RcJydplE3uw3gE6o_N2Ex7WZrJEfCWFPPmPAyInjTiAEbql90XWRLXnMLgDg7oeOJLB1_fsii2eutq6HZNZlfTcanM1o/s1600/IMG_5903.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
From here, you'll want to tighten the hoop at the start pulling the cloth around the edges to stretch the image till there are no wrinkles in the fabric and the image is in it's permanent spot. Leave the glue to dry for a few hours or overnight.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3wgBfwm3HzEuQfZrbDMYhqTHm113NqlzI_xYVIzvh1TSLXHdJUZBWwoa_qNoqx69YDxbOugxQYIJBqdoKQYh2Un2RuxRzv5X_OlKosspgp7MxdnJF7QmkJd1iuDHnwiHpAD2JvDooozwn/s1600/IMG_5910%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3wgBfwm3HzEuQfZrbDMYhqTHm113NqlzI_xYVIzvh1TSLXHdJUZBWwoa_qNoqx69YDxbOugxQYIJBqdoKQYh2Un2RuxRzv5X_OlKosspgp7MxdnJF7QmkJd1iuDHnwiHpAD2JvDooozwn/s1600/IMG_5910%5B1%5D.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Now use a rotary cutter or scissors and slice off the excess fabric and voila, you're done!<br />

<br />
This project was a bit disappointing but it's done. When I tried to use the sewing machine to sew the lace onto the cloth, the machine ate right through the lace so I switched to hand sewing and spent several sick days carefully hand whip stitching all four sides of lace onto the white square followed by hand embroidering the wedding date.<br />
<br />

<br />
Then I threw it in the wash - a complete necessity since I had been sick while working on it and to my horror, when it came out of the wash, I discovered the black lace had stained the white fabric!!! Those splotchy spots on the white square are not shadows from the picture but dyed splotches from the lace and despite trying several different cleaning methods, no luck. Glad this isn't their only gift! I'm going to give it to my friend anyways since handkerchiefs aren't meant for staying clean but I'm sad I spent so much time and effort on making tiny little stitches only to have the final product turn out so lack-luster! Oh well, on to better projects!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18440862504313195907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4269103728391591394.post-10135903675781123502012-10-20T19:40:00.001-07:002012-10-20T19:40:49.789-07:00Mule Camp 2012So I've been down and out this week with a bad random cold. I guess I got a chill last weekend when we headed up to Gainesville for Mule Camp 2012. My husband is from Gainesville, a town about an hour north of Atlanta, and we regularly go there to visit old friends. When Zach started saying we should go up for Mule Camp, I had no idea what he was talking about, it's basically a town fair with a carnival attached. We went up last weekend to check it out.<br />
<br />
We parked at my brother-in-law's house and walked to the city square and on the way we got to walk down Green Street. I've always loved driving down this street so it was great to get to walk down it and take a better look. Green Street is one of those old main streets you find in the south lined with old Southern mansions that have been converted into office buildings and are all painted white for some reason. You'll find the same thing in Athens, GA, but those mansions have been turned into frat houses rather than businesses. I took some shots of some of my favorites.<br />

Above is a rare picture of me and both our babies, Bear and Petunia (we're usually hard to pin down in one spot). My last post was about a rescue we picked up so she's staying with us too and as of last night, the flea situation is out of control!!! We've used a cream flea medicine before but it just doesn't do the job so last week we finally broke down and spent $180 to get them each a 6 month supply of the heartworm & flea pill <a href="http://www.trifexis.com/Default.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1">trifexis</a> but we're waiting on shipment and something went wrong with the prescription so that's another delay and now we've brought in a mystery dog and suddenly everyone is scratching so badly that my head is ready to explode!! This morning I got up and did some research and decided to try spraying everyone and everything with watered down vinegar and to salt the rugs. I've heard you can't mix flea treatments if you put your pets on pill form flea treatment so I'm hesitant to try anything that's not a natural remedy without consulting our vet first. Cross your fingers for me and hopefully the scratching party will ease up till we can get this fancy medicine to work. Anyone used vinegar as a flea killer before? Salt? Success or disappointment?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18440862504313195907noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4269103728391591394.post-55414129775016987402012-10-10T10:05:00.002-07:002012-10-10T18:46:53.858-07:00Wedding Gift<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

After realizing that I will not be able to buy my friends an expensive wedding gift. I came up with an idea to embroider a portrait of them for their gift. The hardest part of this is reducing their images to solid outline without any talent at drawing. After playing around with a picture of them in Gimp (Photoshop for poor people), here's what I was able to come up with. I took the image above and started outlining it with a magic marker and here's what my drawing non-skills were able to produce (flipped for embroidering convenience)<br />

Sometimes people make me very sad. This little girl was abandoned by her owners and she waited for them to come back for a week alone in their front yard. My husband and I took her in yesterday since she finally let us get near her. She's super sweet but doesn't seem to like our dogs so she's looking for a good home and we're looking for a no-kill shelter. If anyone in the Atlanta area would like a sweet little dog to love them forever, please call 404.721.5048!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18440862504313195907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4269103728391591394.post-83901228562088905462012-10-05T10:09:00.002-07:002012-10-05T10:09:59.339-07:00Into the woods!<br />

I put away my doll house when I reached my teen years but it's still all in storage, waiting to be rescued when I have a little girl (who probably won't like mommy playing with her toys more than her). Recently, I stumbled across images of fairy houses on the internet. Many are set up as little doors into tress or just the outsides of the houses but a few are like little doll houses themselves set up for fairies to come in and relax. I saw one in particular that was covered in moss and looked so cute. When I saw this little house for sale in a consignment shop, I couldn't resist. I'm going to try to make it into an "art" doll house, or a home for fairies. What do I mean by an "art" doll house? Mainly that I'm going to try to make most of the furniture that goes into it rather than buying it and decorate it as a whole to look very ethereal and whimsical. Who know what I'll wind up with, it might be a disaster but I have found that moss is surprisingly easy to work with. Just get a glue gun and pin it down. It's naturally messy appearance makes any arrangement look great! More updates to follow.<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4M26KFea50dUsGY4otLsmIIEtXHCDje3XQFIP63DI729ZE8S4ULaRozUevlTLDyoeTilGLv5TiO6TmH2Ja0oWamJKYxrdwlWdtbDsjUPNB2fEF9PmHRqgfhz7N6Hpyncjmvysy95VVTfa/s640/blogger-image--1422516695.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4M26KFea50dUsGY4otLsmIIEtXHCDje3XQFIP63DI729ZE8S4ULaRozUevlTLDyoeTilGLv5TiO6TmH2Ja0oWamJKYxrdwlWdtbDsjUPNB2fEF9PmHRqgfhz7N6Hpyncjmvysy95VVTfa/s640/blogger-image--1422516695.jpg" /></a></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18440862504313195907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4269103728391591394.post-45324146134814653452012-09-18T07:46:00.001-07:002012-09-18T07:46:11.111-07:00Vote for Kindey Donor<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

There are a lot more details I want to write about later like choosing a shop and an artist, tattoo etiquette but for now, let's just go over what to expect when you sit down in the chair.<br />
<br />
Step 1: The Stencil<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKCxjHmqN01devTlNR0EfBbuRsnd0EndgEulApTmG0G3KQC_PT7_dZaexuRTXkEMLCqSEYBlIH70DMXPiS9q5_xgEe1AU_w1sggHJ0hUpf4KVPKRjr058yF_ZAQv8ZFPpAcOJv9dOlxTxQ/s1600/stencil+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKCxjHmqN01devTlNR0EfBbuRsnd0EndgEulApTmG0G3KQC_PT7_dZaexuRTXkEMLCqSEYBlIH70DMXPiS9q5_xgEe1AU_w1sggHJ0hUpf4KVPKRjr058yF_ZAQv8ZFPpAcOJv9dOlxTxQ/s1600/stencil+2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Rubicon-Tattoo/134599583312613">Matt Strauser</a> of <a href="http://rubicontattoo.com/">Rubicon Tattoo</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
After working out your artwork with your artist, they will draw an outline of what you are getting done and have it printed out on a temporary stencil that they can affix to your skin so you get the chance to review the size and placement of your tattoo. This is your chance to change your mind to go bigger, smaller, etc. This stencil rubs off and can be reused a couple of times until you get it perfect so don't be afraid to say if you want any changes made, this is permanent!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm73WvY_cLQM4KITfYT0ppT9bo5gX7WNA9OJrjDEbL3g2q4-6RJutPOxqvdYnOExtw8zS_Bey1ZmOVrDm1ioRjg0eAH3n5xyrgtSYggMBssQ_bduSwqQJv4Z1inGB4lFvfEwFa55ht6hYP/s1600/tattooing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm73WvY_cLQM4KITfYT0ppT9bo5gX7WNA9OJrjDEbL3g2q4-6RJutPOxqvdYnOExtw8zS_Bey1ZmOVrDm1ioRjg0eAH3n5xyrgtSYggMBssQ_bduSwqQJv4Z1inGB4lFvfEwFa55ht6hYP/s1600/tattooing.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Rubicon-Tattoo/134599583312613">Matt Strauser</a> of <a href="http://rubicontattoo.com/">Rubicon Tattoo</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
Now the actual tattooing begins! <br />
<br />
Step 2: The Outline<br />
<br />
Your stencil also acts as a guide for your tattoo artist. However talented they might be, this guarantees they can't make a mistake that you have on your body forever. They will follow this to create the basic outline.<br />
<br />
Step 3: Shading<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3tBKGT5JQt6sJM06eXaB3zGgL2Ix0ajk6aYjHyZugJRfr9J6cWvya-R5TD3UVFZEaa80eKPFPSiUuMx3enI_7JIC1G6yoMBGKx5mE1lR5CYIXfdX5vPZ2nhYKoiXgDpWg4bIJW0lBX6o6/s1600/finished+tattoo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3tBKGT5JQt6sJM06eXaB3zGgL2Ix0ajk6aYjHyZugJRfr9J6cWvya-R5TD3UVFZEaa80eKPFPSiUuMx3enI_7JIC1G6yoMBGKx5mE1lR5CYIXfdX5vPZ2nhYKoiXgDpWg4bIJW0lBX6o6/s1600/finished+tattoo.jpg" height="304" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Rubicon-Tattoo/134599583312613">Matt Strauser</a> of <a href="http://rubicontattoo.com/">Rubicon Tattoo</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
See the black shading in the tattoo now, that's shading. This is where your tattoo artist's talent comes out since they can look at a picture to try to copy the original shading but there's no follow along stencil to guide them. Also as you can see from this picture, you might bleed a little, no biggie.<br />
<br />
Step 4: Color<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoiBMk08YMKzMitV4TdqAnBfmrf9HqPfHDnaNHnqsrRAkR1MvtGEL6li5kmBzNXIaNUloKGiOZRyPmZtFMKMpv-rIj76wNmvSpahsK4nr2qn2Tqw__xHqzwgcddYMGVyABMXfXORJQzIaS/s1600/41255_741768692657_8152623_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoiBMk08YMKzMitV4TdqAnBfmrf9HqPfHDnaNHnqsrRAkR1MvtGEL6li5kmBzNXIaNUloKGiOZRyPmZtFMKMpv-rIj76wNmvSpahsK4nr2qn2Tqw__xHqzwgcddYMGVyABMXfXORJQzIaS/s1600/41255_741768692657_8152623_n.jpg" height="320" width="204" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Photo by <a href="http://www.scobeyphotography.com/">Scobey Photography</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
So the tattoo in the previous pictures didn't have a lot of color since the dog was meant to be black and white (for any video game nerds out there, don't freak out, it's Okami but modeled after our own Husky dog that died) so there's only a little gray in the clouds below him that's not black ink. For fun with color, here's a tattoo on my back! The flowers are all Matt Strauser of <a href="http://rubicontattoo.com/">Rubicon Tattoo</a>, the Skull is <a href="http://zackgaylord.com/">Zack Gaylord</a> from their days back at <a href="http://www.psychotats.com/newweb/home/Home.htm">Psycho Tattoo 2</a>. You can see my really ugly first tattoo, the black stars that will get covered up eventually. Check out that amazing color! Doesn't it make you want to forget about that silly little black stamp of a tattoo everyone (including me) gets as their first tattoo and just dive into something big and bright and filled with color?! This picture is from our engagement shoot with <a href="http://www.scobeyphotography.com/">Scobey Photography</a>, they're amazing!<br />

I have a phone job so my hands are mostly free but I needed something to keep them busy. I've heard "idle hands are the devil's plaything" but mostly, they're annoying! I decided to take up crochet because I love the way it looks and it's an easy way to keep my hands moving/my sanity in check while I dial/wait on hold/leave my 3 bazillionth (it's a number) voice mail of the day.<br />

Any suggestions on how many of these little guys I'll need to make before I start sewing? I began sewing the other day when I realized that if I stuck with only one color, the flowers wouldn't stand out enough so I started crocheting bright white as well as off-white and I'm still way behind my bright-white but I have no idea how many I'll need total so I was just planning on sewing them together with a yarn needle and seeing where I was at.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18440862504313195907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4269103728391591394.post-25657792020934445832012-09-10T16:57:00.001-07:002012-09-11T13:32:29.666-07:00Christmas is ComingMy husband LOVES Godzilla. I assume this is the same kind of love I have for Hello Kitty or Totoro, just instead of the cute and fluffy, he's more drawn to the scaly and destructive. I decided last Christmas that I would make us both fun stockings and I'm working on his first, (Godzilla) then his little brother's which will be Darth Vader, then our tattoo artist's which will feature Dali, and then maybe one for me. I just can't decide what I want on mine, do I want a specific character like Ponyo or Stitch, or do I want something more generic like Christmas themed owls or a skeleton Santa? Jack Skellington perhaps? We'll see. Here's a bit of Godzilla but I'm unhappy with the cut of the stocking I started with, going to try to rework it to have more of an angle at the toe.<br />

I'm guessing it's made from something horrible for you that causes 8 kinds of cancer, etc., etc. but despite that, this made my morning. I've now finished the humungo cherry vanilla diet coke I bought on the way to work and am actually considering getting another one at lunch...<br />

Another thing I've discovered today is this wall paperfrom <a href="http://www.famillesummerbelle.com/home.php">Famille Summerbelle</a>. It's called <a href="http://www.famillesummerbelle.com/product.php?productid=17584&cat=484&page=1">Un Dimanche à Paris</a>, which translates to a Sunday in Paris. Isn't this the fricking cutest thing you've ever seen?! Not that I have any idea how to put up wallpaper, or the money to afford this kind if I did, or that even if I did have an accent wall that I decided to splurge on with this stuff that I would put it up in a house I wasn't sure I would be living in until I'm old and gray so that I didn't have to leave it behind *deep breath* but I love this!!! I think I might have to splurge on the <a href="http://www.famillesummerbelle.com/product.php?productid=17596&cat=485&page=1">tea towel</a>.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18440862504313195907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4269103728391591394.post-63311151587664446182012-09-07T06:40:00.000-07:002012-09-07T06:40:41.032-07:00The Best Snack Ever<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Above you see an image of the greatest snack ever though of - whipped cream on a banana. It's taste is reminiscent of a banana split but without the calories. It requires 0 prep, just spray a bit of canned whipped cream every few bites of banana. Try it, it's amazing. I want one now.... why am I at work where there is neither bananas nor whipped cream?!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18440862504313195907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4269103728391591394.post-71984181537778814442012-09-07T06:37:00.000-07:002012-09-07T06:37:27.235-07:00Trigger Happy II<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here's a quick update from an earlier spray painting adventure. This cute little shelf is now installed above my sewing machine so I can keep spools and such at hand. I love the yellow! It's amazing what a quick coat of Krylon will do. Never buy cheap spray paint! It's worth the extra $1 or $2 to get a nice even coat!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18440862504313195907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4269103728391591394.post-37595097201060077762012-09-06T14:15:00.000-07:002012-09-07T06:32:53.305-07:00Duct Tape Dress Form II<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">After
posting about my hard work on taping down the dressform, I started stuffing it
the very next day. This took longer and was much more difficult than
expected. The hardest part was making
inserts to cap off the holes for the arms and bottom. I just cut out circles for the arms using
foam board and my duct tape sticker for a stencil.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">The base was harder because I obviously didn’t want it

<span style="font-family: inherit;">I, being a dummy,
didn’t get a better picture but trust me, it was a disaster! Here you can see how I started to tape my
poor shell back together with this black super duct tape my hubby gave me to
comfort me in my grieving. <b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Lesson learned from this: just taping up the seam is not enough – wrap
that sucker around and around and around!<o:p></o:p></span></b></span></div>

<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I had to take all the
stuffing back out, wrap duct tape around the stomach area and re-tape the seam
closed. Then I could begin stuffing
again and I hate to admit it but the left shoulder is a bit wonky from the
experience. It’s slightly concaved but I
think it will still work fine for checking dress straps as I try to resume my
self-teaching of how to sew cloths. What
I’m saddest about is that there is how lots of black tape over my cute pink
tape, in a circle around the stomach and all over the back and low and behold –
<b>Duck Tape appears to no longer be making
this tape!!! </b>I can only find it for around $8 per roll with shipping on
ebay and I’m just too cheap for that, leaving my poor dress form looking a lot
shoddier than I had hoped but still working.</span><br />
